Broadford Hospital is Health Care Development of the Year
Hub North Scotland’s Broadford Hospital project on Skye was a winner at this year’s Scottish Property Awards.
The new-build hospital, set in a stunning location on the shores of Broadford Bay looking towards the Skye Bridge, won the Health Care Development of the Year category at the awards dinner in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
Hub North delivered the health facility on behalf of NHS Highland and it opened its doors in February 2022. Our architects were Oberlanders and Skye-based Rural Design, while the main contractor was Balfour Beatty.
Broadford was part of a £40 million development for NHS Highland, which included the new Badenoch & Strathspey Community Hospital in Aviemore. The Aviemore hospital won the same health care development category at last year’s Scottish Property Awards.
The Broadford development faced stiff competition in the awards shortlist against the Clydebank Health and Care Centre in Glasgow
Hub North Scotland’s developments director, Richard Park, said: “We are delighted to see this wonderful project being recognised with a national award success. Broadford is a fantastic health facility which is transforming service delivery both on Skye and on the Lochalsh and South West Ross mainland. There was a great team effort by all the partners and the new building will benefit the whole community for generations to come.”
The Broadford Hospital has the capacity for 24-beds, and includes a midwife-led maternity unit, a chemotherapy and renal dialysis unit, an X-ray unit and an ultrasound unit. It replaced the nearby Dr Mackinnon Memorial Hospital and sits alongside the Broadford Medical Centre.
The Broadford project was supported by the Scottish Futures Trust and the project team included Thomson Gray, Currie & Brown, Waterman, Rybka, and Wardell Armstrong.
