Tree planting ceremony marks education journey for new Aberdeen community

Pupils, staff and parents today marked the official opening of the new Countesswells primary school in Aberdeen.

The hub North Scotland project was completed a month ahead of schedule and pupils moved into the new building only last week.

It was delivered on behalf of Aberdeen City Council with Morrison Construction Building North East as the main contractor and Halliday Fraser Munro were architects.

Aberdeen City Council’s education and children’s services convenor, councillor Martin Greig, and his vice-convenor, councillor Jessica Mennie, marked the opening with a tree planting ceremony with pupils.

Councillor Greig said: “The pupils will benefit from this wonderful setting which will really enhance their learning experience.”

Ewen Fowlie, operations director for hub North Scotland, said: “Countesswells has been a brilliant school project and the result is a fantastic building which has been completed early and defect free. It will be a popular landmark for generations to come as this community continues to grow.”

Countesswells is the first of two new primary schools being delivered for Aberdeen City Council by hub North Scotland with the new Greyhope School and Community Hub in Torry due to be completed later this year.
