Plans are under way with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and NHS Western Isles to design and build the new Barra & Vatersay Community Campus (BVCC) on the site of the existing Castlebay Community School.
It will replace the current school and St Brendan’s Hospital with a multi-use campus which will also include social care housing and community facilities.
The campus will provide education for early years, primary and secondary pupils along with a children’s centre; acute and non-acute health facilities along with a GP practice and dental services; community and college learning; a community café; 10 social care flats; a learning resource centre and library; local office services; a Police Scotland centre; a three-court games hall, a four-lane swimming pool, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and a 3G football pitch.
It is anticipated that works will begin on site in April 2022 with construction completed in June 2024.
