NHS Grampian celebrate first birth at midwife-led unit
The first baby has been born at the new midwife-led community maternity unit at the £14.8 million Inverurie Health & Care Hub that was delivered for NHS Grampian by hub North Scotland.
Cruz Smith weighed in at a healthy 7lb 8oz when he was born at the unit, which was part of a joint project that also saw the construction of the new Foresterhill Health Centre in Aberdeen. The main contractor for both buildings was Morrison Construction.
His parents Yolanda and Jonny, who live in Newmachar with their four-year-old daughter Aaliyah, had expected to travel to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital for the birth but were offered the opportunity to go to Inverurie, which was closer.
Michael Padzinski, chief executive of hub North Scotland, said: “We are delighted by the safe arrival of Cruz, which demonstrates what a fantastic facility the health and care hub is for Inverurie and the surrounding community.”
Baby Cruz is pictured in the photograph with his parents and sister along with NHS Grampian community midwife team leader Jude Falconer and midwifery manager Rachael MacDonald.
