hub projects shortlisted for major awards
An initiative by hub North Scotland has been shortlisted in three categories in this year’s prestigious Partnership Awards.
The work to deliver the Inverurie Community Campus, Lossiemouth High School and Alness Academy developments has reached the finals of the awards, which recognise outstanding achievements in public-private partnerships on projects across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
All three schools were developed in a unique partnership between Aberdeenshire Council, Moray Council and the Highland Council with an innovative collaboration across traditional local authority boundaries.
The project bundle has been shortlisted for the Best Education Project category in the awards while the three local authorities are shortlisted for the Public Sector Team of the year category. In addition, hub North Scotland has been shortlisted for Developer of the Year.
The partners in this project embraced the opportunity to create an exclusive structure for finance and delivery of this £131M project bundle. The financial structure for the project was jointly developed through detailed modelling and enabling protocol between the three local authorities. This approach enabled significant benefits to be achieved including financial, educational and community wide and will result in the delivery of new school estate for 3,000-pupils.
The main contractors for the development are Robertson Construction for the £55 million Inverurie Community Campus; Balfour Beatty for the £42 million Lossiemouth High School and Keir Construction for the £34 million Alness Academy.
Michael Padzinski, chief executive of hub North Scotland said: “I am delighted to see all the hard that has gone into developing these facilities has been recognised as one of the biggest and most prestigious events in the industry. I am especially pleased that our local authority partners have been shortlisted for Public Sector Team of the Year.”
The winners will be announced at the finalists’ dinner in London on Thursday 9th May. The full shortlists can be found on: http://partnershipsawards.partnershipsevents.com/shortlist
