New gas main being installed to project site
Work to connect the new £42 million Lossiemouth High School to the main gas network will begin on Monday 23rd September and will involve installing a pipe across the common good ground at Coulardbank Playing Fields.
The new pipe is being installed by gas network company SGN and will run from the school site to the A941 Lossiemouth-Elgin road, opposite the junction with Macduff Street. The line of the new pipe will be closed off to the general public by security fencing during these works. There will also be works on local roads.
Chair of Moray Council’s Children & Young People’s Services Committee, Councillor Sonya Warren, is pleased with the progress being made on site and said the gas pipe was a key part of that work.
She explained: “In order to provide the best facilities for our learners, we’re investing millions into a replacement Lossiemouth High School. The laying of this pipe is a crucial step in the build project and, whilst an area of common good land will be out of bounds while this takes place, I know the community will appreciate that it’s being done in the interests of public safety, and acknowledge the power of work being done by our contractors to build an excellent learning and community space for Lossiemouth residents.”
The works will take around six weeks, depending on weather and ground conditions. Residents who have any queries or concerns, can contact SGN Customer Service on 0800-912-1700 or the project site office on 01343-818818
